After returning from a wonderful trip to Wiltshire to photograph the uber talented & super lovely Harriet Lowther (Made By Harriet) in her natural habitat, I thought it was about time I created a 'Helpful guide to planning your branding photoshoot ' and explained in more detail about what to expect from your branding photo session with me. I always want my clients to get the most out their branding session & to feel relaxed and at ease on the day. With all this in mind, my best & overall advice is to be prepared & plan your photo shoot beforehand so you're ready and set to go. I'm always happy to help answer any questions & guide you along the way. This little blog should help answer any questions you might have... so, you've booked your branding shoot - now what HAPPENS? Firstly, get inspired & have a deep dive into what sort of images you'd like to create. Instagram is a great place to scroll & save inspo shots, as is good old Pinterest. You might even want to make a mood board which you're welcome to share with me. You might be looking for fresh headshots, photos of your tools & equipment, images of you at work in your creative space, your new products, your latest services or for all these elements combined during your branding session. Having a clear shot list at the ready (I do love a list), can really help guide me on the day so you get the most out of your shoot. Here's an example from Harriet's branding shoot... - Photos of me in my studio space - Product shots of my latest ceramic pieces - Shots of me with my cat Sean Connery & Dog Doughnut - Outdoor shots of jumpers & tote bags You can shop all Harriet's wonderful creations here - https://madebyharriet.co.uk/ location, location, location While I'm always happy to provide my professional advice on locations, backdrops & lighting (natural daylight is always best), this is ultimately chosen by you. So if you want photos in your home setup or your studio space, that's totally cool & that might be what captures the essence of your brand best. Think about a location that suits your business, products & what you're offering. If you're a fitness instructor, then you might want to consider a gym environment or an outdoor space. If you're a hair stylist, then it would probably work best to photograph in a salon setup. If you hotdesk, then maybe think about some office spaces or nice coffee shops that would work as clean backdrop and capture you 'at work'. If you want something specific like a photography studio or even an AirBnb, then you will need to book this location. I'm always happy to travel to you, but please be aware that for photo sessions further afield (more than 10 miles from NG11) additional travel costs apply. PROPS & STYLING For branding shoots focussed around product photographs, props & styling are really key to creating strong images. So make sure you get some ideas flowing & source props that you would like to include in your photo session. When it comes to props the possibilities are endless, so try and find things that compliment & relate to your products & what it is you're selling. For example, Harriet Lowther's designs are inspired by cats & dogs, so it would be rude not to have a cat or a dog photobombing a couple of the product shots! TOP TIP: Plants & foliage are always a simple & easy way of bringing products to life! (cats work nicely too!) WHAT TO WEAR? This does depend on what kind of business you run. If you wear a uniform with your business branding on, then it can work well to wear this for the shoot. It's always best to have a few outfit options at the ready & that way you get a few different looks in your final images. If you're a professional chef then you will probably want to be captured in your chef's whites for at least the majority of the shots. If you run a dog walking business, you will want to look outdoorsy & practical - walking boots at the ready! My only big 'No No's' when it comes to what to wear are as follows: 1) Avoid wearing all black garments where possible 2) Avoid wearing big logos (unless it's your own business logo) 3) Please iron your crinkly clothes - especially if you're wearing a shirt! Ultimately, you should wear what reflects you and your business. If you're an illustrator who loves colour, then wear your favourite colours that reflect your energy. If you're a minimalist and love more muted neutrals, that's totally cool. You want to feel like YOU! 'IT'S ALL ABOUT YOU' This is a chance for your clients & potential customers to get a feel of your personality & what your business has to offer. So make the photos feel relaxed and inviting - this will really shine through in the final selection of images. If you're an animal lover and have a beloved pet, then why not get them involved for a few photos. What happens after THE shoot?WELL DONE, you've done it - you've ticked that BIG scary thing off your business 'to do' list and it wasn't that scary after all. In fact, you really rather enjoyed the whole experience....it didn't feel like work at all. You do a big sigh of relief.....and leave the rest up to me! I individually edit your images in a natural style which compliments how I photograph. I don't do any major beauty retouching, but I can edit out the odd blemish or mark. Please don't worry - I want you to look your best too. It takes up to 2 weeks to complete the edit and deliver your final images (I will let you know otherwise and give you updates along the way). The edited images will be available to download in your personal online gallery link. The images will be available to download in both 'Hi Res' (print quality format) and web friendly format (perfect for sharing online & on socials).
