‘A LOVELY LOCAL PHOTOGRAPHER, FOR LOVELY LOCAL PEOPLE’ There’s something rather special about shooting an intimate wedding in your hometown, Nottingham. I made the decision a while ago to ‘Keep it Local’ and to predominantly take on bookings within Nottingham & East Midlands and I’ve not looked back! This has been the most sustainable option for me personally, in terms of my health & work life balance. Not only has my overall wellness benefitted, but being local also reduces my carbon footprint as I'm not travelling hundreds of miles & staying in multiple hotels. Becoming a local photographer seemed a daunting prospect before, as I felt I might be losing out on work by turning bookings away that were further afield. But I’ve found quite the opposite has happened… By focussing my attention within a smaller area, I’ve not only taking on plenty of bookings (and really enjoyed them), but I’ve been building stronger & long-lasting connections with people & businesses within my local community, which feels so positive. I’m no longer wasting time on the road or stressing about driving & logistics. Instead, I use those precious hours effectively to edit photos at home and produce great results for my clients, without feeling totally frazzled or burnt out. It’s a win, win! By giving myself space in my diary (a terrifying prospect for any freelancer), it’s opened the doors for me to explore other areas of photography and diversify my business. Did you know I also offer Branding Photography for businesses & freelancers? I also specialise in beautiful dog portraits. My passion project ‘Pooch Perfect Photography’ combines my two loves, photography & dogs. I capture the unique bond between dogs and their owners. These other branches of my business would probably never have happened if I kept chasing the wedding bookings up and down the country. Instead, I can focus on nurturing the future of my business and how I’d like my business to grow & flourish (which doesn’t always mean more!) in a way that’s sustainable. It’s given me an excited buzzing feeling again, as I have so many ideas that I would like to try and there’s still so much I want to learn & explore within my photography. Finally, you cannot underestimate the power of sleeping in your own bed the night before photographing someone's special day – it allows me to be well rested & perform at my peak!
