ABOUT THE HOUSE...Langar Hall is a charming historic country house hotel located in the village of Langar, Nottinghamshire, England. The building dates back to the early 19th century, and was originally built as a private residence for the Turney family. The property was later converted into a hotel and restaurant, and is now run as a family-owned business. The hotel features 12 individually designed bedrooms, a restaurant serving locally sourced cuisine, along with drinks and cocktails. Langar Hall is surrounded by 12 acres of gardens and grounds, including a pretty woodland & stream . St Andrew's Church is situated next-door to the estate so it really is the perfect place if you're wanting a church ceremony too. Notable guests who have stayed at Langar Hall include Prince Charles and Princess Diana, who visited the property in 1981. Along with Nottingham Fashion Designer Paul Smith, but more about him later. COLOURS, PRINTS & PATTERNS...FASHION DESIGNER, PAUL SMITHPaul Smith, the Nottingham born fashion designer, is connected to Langar Hall. In the 1980s, Paul Smith purchased Langar Hall and its surrounding estate, which he then used as his country retreat and a place to entertain clients and friends. During his ownership, Smith made a number of improvements to the property, including adding a Japanese garden and renovating the interiors. He also used Langar Hall as a source of inspiration for some of his designs, incorporating elements of the estate's architecture and landscape into his collections. In 1990, Smith sold Langar Hall to Imogen Skirving (portrait below), who turned it into a hotel and restaurant. However, Smith has remained connected to the property and has even designed some of the staff uniforms for Langar Hall. Imogen Skirving is the late owner of Langar Hall. She took over the property in 1980, and over the years she transformed it into one of the most popular country house hotels in the UK. Skirving's vision for Langar Hall was to create a warm and welcoming environment where guests could relax and enjoy the beauty of the surrounding countryside. She was instrumental in preserving the historic features of the property while also modernizing it to meet the needs of modern traveler's. In addition to running the hotel, Skirving was an accomplished artist and sculptor. Her work can be seen throughout the property, and she has also exhibited her pieces in galleries around the world. Skirving's dedication to quality and attention to detail is evident in every aspect of Langar Hall, from the food to the decor to the level of service provided by the staff. ROOMS & INTERIORSThe architecture of Langar Hall is primarily Georgian, with some additions from the Victorian and Edwardian periods. The building is constructed of red brick, with white painted detailing on the windows and door frames. The main entrance to Langar Hall is through a small porch with a flat roof and Ionic columns. The porch leads into a large entrance hall, which features a sweeping staircase with a decorative wrought iron balustrade. The staircase leads up to the first floor, where there are several bedrooms and guest rooms. The ground floor of Langar Hall includes a number of reception rooms, including a drawing room, dining room, and library. These rooms feature high ceilings, decorative plasterwork, and ornate fireplaces. The drawing room is particularly notable for its large bay window, which offers views over the gardens and parkland surrounding the house.
